The development of a cost efficient reverse engineering system is described. It is based in a laser distance meter mounted on the spindle of a CNC Machining Center. The laser PSD triangulation technique is used to measure distance. The laser device scans the target the XY plane while the instantaneous distance to the target surgace is measured. In this way a 3D point cloud that belongs to the target surface is obtained.
