A synthetic evaluation of the characteristics of precipitation intensity – The method proposed in this paper to evaluate the characteristics of precipitation intensity is not based on the definition of class-intervals. By using daily precipitation data, it is possible to plot the curves of the retro-cumulative values of the frequencies and of the proportion of total rainfall amount, in function of daily intensity; then the areas between these curves and coordinate axes can be considered as general indicators of the precipitation intensity. These indicators are useful for both comparisons and classifications, as well as for the analysis of temporal variations of pluviometric characteristics.
