As effect of the reforms that involved the consular institution during the nineteenth century, a relevant issue concerned the standardization of the information activities and, in particular, the elaboration of the commercial memories. These dossiers became an important part of the duties of the consuls abroad, increasingly linked to a role of a commercial nature and no more related with political issues. The Spanish consul at Leghorn, Lucio Saavedra, sent to Madrid in 1884 a very interesting report about the city and its area, a document quite different from others consular reports, offering a relevant contribution for understanding the evolution of the institution and for the history of Livorno in a Mediterranean framework.

Abstract
As effect of the reforms that involved the consular institution during the nineteenth century, a relevant issue concerned the standardization of the information activities and, in particular, the elaboration of the commercial memories. These dossiers became an important part of the duties of the consuls abroad, increasingly linked to a role of a commercial nature and no more related with political issues. The Spanish consul at Leghorn, Lucio Saavedra, sent to Madrid in 1884 a very interesting report about the city and its area, a document quite different from others consular reports, offering a relevant contribution for understanding the evolution of the institution and for the history of Livorno in a Mediterranean framework.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
