In consideration of the debate in German Studies over recent decades about humour and starting from the necessity to better understand the extreme variety of comical effects in literature written in German, the article tries to consider the positive elements the several theories offer in order to define the main characteristics of humour and proposes an interpenetration of the aesthetic and linguistic point of view. The authoress focuses on the comical elementary effect in literary texts and points out the importance for its analysis of considering the comic intention, the creation of a detached point of view, the double level of negation and affirmation, and the cognitive dynamism humour activates in readers during their reception process. The identification of these peculiarities is proposed as a contribution to the analysis of literary texts.
