Wetlands cover about 6% of the world landscape. Within such lands, the dominant classes, bogs and fens, are highly important for the C cycle and in particular peatlands, sequestering about onethird of the terrestrial C, are critical ecosystems, which need to be largely investigated for their microbial diversity and roles.
