ABSTRACT This paper is a first report of a research on the characteristics of the Hispanic-American translations of Otto Hübner’s Der kleine Volkswirth (1852) published in Chile (1866), Uruguay (1866) and Argentina (1870, 1873) and derived from the French translations and adaptations by Charles Le Hardy de Beaulieu (1861, 1862, 1868). More precisely, the article focuses on the linguistic, pragmatic (authors, public, medium, situations, functions) and paratextual (introductions, titles, subtitles) peculiarities of these transla- tions, and aims to point out the relationships between the Hispanic-Amer- ican reception of Hübner’s textbook and the recent creation and develop- ment of the Hispanic-American Nation-States.
