This paper presents some preliminary results obtained during the excavations of a Chalcolithic/EarlyBronze age village in south-east Italy: Trasano at Matera (Lucania). The authors draw attention to the variety of architecture present there: round houses but, more frequently, oval houses with two central posts; also a few long buildings and numerous enclosures. Assumptions are suggested concerning the technology of wall construction, of house-building, and of the carpentry involved. The pottery that has been found so far attributes this site to the Laterza Culture. Some of the pottery – the ‘scaly’ pottery – bears common and widespread motifs, while some displays trans-Adriatic influences from the Cetina Culture, which is also present in Calabria (in its Zungri-Corazzo facies).

Abstract
This paper presents some preliminary results obtained during the excavations of a Chalcolithic/EarlyBronze age village in south-east Italy: Trasano at Matera (Lucania). The authors draw attention to the variety of architecture present there: round houses but, more frequently, oval houses with two central posts; also a few long buildings and numerous enclosures. Assumptions are suggested concerning the technology of wall construction, of house-building, and of the carpentry involved. The pottery that has been found so far attributes this site to the Laterza Culture. Some of the pottery – the ‘scaly’ pottery – bears common and widespread motifs, while some displays trans-Adriatic influences from the Cetina Culture, which is also present in Calabria (in its Zungri-Corazzo facies).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
