Abstract
The principal advantage of introducing some percentages of crumb rubber in the production of asphalt mixtures is related to pavement environmental sustainability. A Crumb Rubber Modified Binder (CRMB) is produced by introducing a Crumb Rubber Modifier (CRM) in an asphalt binder. Due to its high viscosity, the product must be handled at very high temperatures. Warm-Mix Asphalt (WMA) refers to technologies that allow a significant reduction of mixing and compaction temperatures of asphalt concretes by acting on some characteristics of asphalt binders. The benefits of using WMA technology may include reduced fuel usage and pollution, and improved working conditions. The aim of this research is to investigate the effects of the WMA additives and to identify the additive more appropriate to improve the properties of the CRMB in terms of viscosity and coating properties; the work has been completed by reporting the results of the mechanical and volumetric properties of the mix designed by using the selected WMA additiveI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
