This work has the aim to provide a rough outline of the evolution of coastal areas over the past few decades focusing on human pressure, tourist pressure, the settlement system, land use and spatial planning. Using a diachronic approach, the study analyses the changes that have occurred in this area, focusing its attention on different aspects of global change itself and on current trends in land use change and urban change in particular.
