In this paper the realization of a wearable active Sierpinski fractal antenna for off-body communication is presented. The realized prototype is designed for operation in the 868MHz and 915MHz Industrial Scientific Medical bands. The selection of the desired frequency is performed by modifying the antenna feeding structure through an input impedance matching network. This adaptive feeding structure also compensates for variations in input impedance of the antenna caused by the presence of the human body. The design is validated by simulations and measurements on an antenna prototype.

Abstract

In this paper the realization of a wearable active Sierpinski fractal antenna for off-body communication is presented. The realized prototype is designed for operation in the 868MHz and 915MHz Industrial Scientific Medical bands. The selection of the desired frequency is performed by modifying the antenna feeding structure through an input impedance matching network. This adaptive feeding structure also compensates for variations in input impedance of the antenna caused by the presence of the human body. The design is validated by simulations and measurements on an antenna prototype.
