The essay deals with the relationship between Plinius The Elder and Paolo Giovio. Giovio uses latin terminology of "Naturalis historia" to create a new language of critique of art, useful to describe works of art of xvith century artists. In "Dialogo delle imprese" Giovio uses in his "imprese" Plinius' description of behavior of animals, as moral symbols of human vices or virtues.
