The paper reports on an analysis of three constructions involving the Spanish verb ver (to see) with different degrees of grammaticalization. From its prototypical meaning of direct visual perception, ver has developed diachronically to acquire a secondary signification of indirect evidentiality. The ultimate aim of the study is to determine exactly when in their linguistic evolution these three constructions emerged the readings as markers for inferential and reported evidentiality.
