This paper aims to highlight how culture could become an important pivot for the development of small towns, through some components which go “beyond” the traditional cultural offer. Considering culture as the expression of a specifi c geographic context, the focus is on the enhancement of cultural heritage, which involves the entire territory and emphasizes the local specifi cities. According to this perspective, this work will try to show – through some case studies – how some small towns, with a high-level cultural heritage, can compete with other cities, offering their users an emotional experience and uniqueness of atmosphere, such as to make them recognizable at a supra-local level, thanks also to the implementation of innovative promotion strategies.

Abstract
This paper aims to highlight how culture could become an important pivot for the development of small towns, through some components which go “beyond” the traditional cultural offer. Considering culture as the expression of a specifi c geographic context, the focus is on the enhancement of cultural heritage, which involves the entire territory and emphasizes the local specifi cities. According to this perspective, this work will try to show – through some case studies – how some small towns, with a high-level cultural heritage, can compete with other cities, offering their users an emotional experience and uniqueness of atmosphere, such as to make them recognizable at a supra-local level, thanks also to the implementation of innovative promotion strategies.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
