Emotions were divided by scholars into basic emotions and others that derive from them; they were also divided into positive and negative emotions, depending on their relation with joyous or painful experiences. The aforementioned attempts to control and categorize emotions rationally are all bound to fail: emotions are elusive, given their unconscious origin, which is hybrid between body and psyche. Emotions are ambivalent. For this reason they are essential for the knowledge of self and the world. An education for emotions is a useful tool to learn to bear their inherent indefiniteness. It helps to coexist even with those which are considered negative emotions, such as fear, wrath and anxiety. Music is a particularly effective language to undertake a path of emotional education.

Le emozioni sono state suddivise in emozioni di base e altre da esse derivate; oppure in positive e negative rispetto all’essere associate a esperienze gioiose o dolorose. Tali tentativi di controllarle a livello razionale sono fallimentari: esse sono inafferrabili per lo loro origine anche inconscia e ibrida tra corpo e psiche. Le emozioni sono ambivalenti. Esse sono per questo indispensabili per la conoscenza di sé e del mondo. Educare alle emozioni significa rendere capaci di tollerarne l’indefinitezza e di convivere anche con quelle considerate come negative, quali la paura, la rabbia e gli stati emotivi ansiosi. La musica rappresenta un linguaggio particolarmente efficace per intraprendere un percorso di educazione emozionale.
