Abstract

Due to improved survival of cancer patients, the approach to metastatic disease is changing. Surgery for bone metastases is no longer just a short-term treatment, but must often aim to a durable result. This has led to a wider use of megaprostheses, but nail fixation remains the treatment of choice in many cases. A multidisciplinary approach is needed for decision and adjunctive procedures, such as curettage and cement filling, preop embolization or thermoablation, and postop radiotherapy, are often necessary.
