Z GENERATION: INCREASING OR EXTENDING THE BIM PARADIGM?

At the University of Pisa, twenty years ago, began the research about the building information modelling: a methodology until a few years ago basically unknown in the world of Italian construction, where today instead, "risks" becoming compulsory according to the European Directive of 2014. No widespread knowledge, sudden urgency and huge business can reduce the debate on BIM, in our country, just to the use of a software or a mere regulatory framework. Yet this methodology is the current international state of the art about a thirty years research in the AEC field, created to investigate the impact on it by the development of the new ICT technologies. The paper aims to demonstrate how the so-called Building Information Modeling is the upgrade, consistent and effective, of the holistic approach to the link between design and construction typical of the tradition. The benefits, such as saving resources, are only a consequence. The generation Z will have the task of choosing the way to include the BIM methodology in the AEC field. Will emerge the need of a “vertical” specialization of this methodology, or the need of a its “horizontal” extension toward a larger number of areas and actors?

Nell’Università di Pisa, venti anni fa, inizia la ricerca sul Building Information Modeling: metodologia fino a pochi anni fa in pratica sconosciuta nel mondo delle costruzioni italiano, dove oggi, invece, “rischia” di divenire obbligatoria secondo una direttiva europea del 2014. Assenza di conoscenza diffusa, improvvisa urgenza e ingenti interessi commerciali possono ridurre il dibattito sul B.I.M., nel nostro Paese, all’utilizzo di un software o a un mero inquadramento normativo. Eppure questa metodologia esprime l’attuale stato dell’arte internazionale di una ricerca trentennale del settore AEC, nata per indagare l’incidenza su di esso dello sviluppo delle nuove tecnologie. Il contributo intende dimostrare come il cosiddetto Building Information Modeling sia l’attualizzazione, congruente ed efficace, dell’approccio olistico al rapporto fra progetto e costruzione, proprio della tradizione. La concretezza dei risultati, come il notevole risparmio di risorse, ne è solo una diretta conseguenza. La generazione Z nel settore delle costruzioni avrà il compito di scegliere le modalità più congruenti di adozione del BIM. Emergerà la necessità di un approfondimento verticale della metodologia o piuttosto di una sua estensione orizzontale a un numero maggiore di ambiti e attori?
