Such instability regards both the scholar and the artist, both whom operate within the same systemic and cultural horizon which invests and informs the modalities of the analysis and, for what concerns our subject, the laughing body-text.

Abstract

The paper reflects upon the intrinsic needs connected with current methodologies of the study of the contemporary comic, identifying problems and hypothetical solutions within the complex society. The survey on modern artistic phenomena involves new criteria that were not used in recent times, when communication technologies, circulation and data access ignored the speed and the diffusive capacity of the present. The scope of the comic represents a borderline case to test the new conditions of performance production/circulation/reception, since the intertextuality implied by mass-media culture with the nature of the genre being added, which has its actual priorities in the undefined and the intertextual opening. We are faced with an inevitable dichotomy: the contextual conditions increase exponentially the levels of reading; on the other hand, such conditions contribute to the gradual disappearance of the extended time, implying the urgent need to confront itself with new parameters. As well as this shakiness – both of stimulus and looks – a further fragmentation is added, represented by the less reassuring conditions (from an economic and existential viewpoint) which are faced by scholars, which are reflected both by the results and the nature of the work. Such instability regards both the scholar and the artist, both whom operate within the same systemic and cultural horizon which invests and informs the modalities of the analysis and, for what concerns our subject, the laughing body-text.
