The author discusses the Demotic word wrH, used for a particular type of land, arguing from the evidence of the Pathyris papyri that it was only partly equivalent to φιλὸς τόπος. Originally simply meaning "soil" it developed into designating "building-site" or "fallow-land", but also land planted with trees (not with cereals). The development of the term during the Ptolemaic Period is described and its connection with economic changes indicated.

Abstract
The author discusses the Demotic word wrH, used for a particular type of land, arguing from the evidence of the Pathyris papyri that it was only partly equivalent to φιλὸς τόπος. Originally simply meaning "soil" it developed into designating "building-site" or "fallow-land", but also land planted with trees (not with cereals). The development of the term during the Ptolemaic Period is described and its connection with economic changes indicated.File in questo prodotto:
