Ekanite has been identified from calc-silicate rocks occurring in the contact aureole of the Botro ai Marmi monzogranite intrusion. The samples have been collected in the Montorsi mine. Ekanite occurs as bipyramidal striated crystals, up to 6 mm in size, emerald green in color, usually associated with allanite-(Ce), calcite, diopside, violet fluorite, pyrrhotite, scapolite, titanite, tremolite, and vesuvianite. This is the first identification of ekanite from the Botro ai Marmi area and the second occurrence of this calcium-thorium silicate in Tuscany.
