Abstract

Thanks to a survey of the epigraphic evidence attesting Roman citizens bearing the name Ti. Iulii, it is possible to identify grants of Roman citizenship under the reign of Tiberius in the province of Asia. His policy towards Greek culture has been defined “a private Hellenism”. As a matter of fact, he had been more interested in the grants of Roman citizenship before his adoption than after it. In the end, the survey of the evidence shows that Tiberius was completely disinterested in enlarging the Roman civic body; this is proved also by the lack of imperial journeys in the province of Asia during his reign.
