Abstract The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for the biophysical grapevine parameters estimation was evaluated in a fully productive vineyard in Tuscany. Three different groups of vines (High, Medium and Low) were identified on the basis of their vigour, evaluated by means a directly observations in the field. Normalized Difference Vegetatoin Index (NDVI) values were obtained from multispectral aerial images acquired from a multispectral camera mounted on UAV. Measurements of Leaf Area Index (LAI), greenness index, green canopy cover and canopy volume were monitored from May to August on each group of vines. Differences in NDVI and greenness index values between “High” and “Low” groups were significant in May, June and July, but less evident in August. Similarly, canopy volume, green canopy cover and LAI values increased from “Low” to “High” groups. Appreciable correlations between NDVI and LAI (R2=0.77) as well as between NDVI and greenness index (R2=0.51) values were also found.
