Benchmarking and process of organ donation after brain death: a methodology to identify the potential of donation (SA.BO method) In Italy, marked differences exist between hospitals in regarding data collection on deaths with acute brain injury in ICUs. We developed an easy and economical method based on Hospital Discharge Forms (HDFs) and the ICD9- CM classification. From January 2009 to December 2011 there were 6,995 deaths, with 22% due to acute cerebral lesions. By combining HDF main diagnosis with 1st secondary diagnosis, we obtained a value similar to that achieved by the more complex Tuscany Regional Quality Program. Therefore, this method allows an easier and more homogeneous identification of actual potentiality in the benchmarking of organ donation.

Abstract
Therefore, this method allows an easier and more homogeneous identification of actual potentiality in the benchmarking of organ donation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
