Raynal, sezione a cui ha collaborato Diderot, precisandone la relazione intertestuale con due testi estremamente significativi dell’illuminismo scozzese: 1) W. Robertson, The History of the Reign of the Emperor Charles V, with a View of the Progress of Society in Europe from the subversion of the Roman Empire to the beginning of the sixteenth Century (London 1769), trasposto a partire dalla traduzione francese del 1771 (Amsterdam, Paris, 1771) ; 2) J. Millar, Observations concerning the distinction of ranks in society (London,1771), testo trasposto a partire dalls traduzione francese del 1773 (Amsterdam, 1773).
