Le elezioni a Livorno dalla crisi dell'egemonia liberale all'avvento del fascismo (1919-1924)

This essay aims to analyse the main political events and the results of both national and local elections in Livorno since 1919 up until 1924. After the success of the Socialist Party in the 1919 general elections and the 1920 local elections, the leadership of the local liberal leading class reorganized and strengthened its political ranks allying with the Fascio of Livorno in the general elections of May 1921. The Fascist squads became the protagonists of the violent “battle” against the left culminated with the “conquest” of the municipality of Livorno in August 1922. After the March on Rome also the balance of political power between Liberals and Fascists shifted completely as shown by the results of both the 1923 local elections and the 1924 general elections.
