This paper aims to analyze the results of the national and local elections held in the province of Pisa after the First World War. Before World War I, liberals and republicans were used to win the elections. But in the national elections of 1919 the Socialist Party had a great success and conquered 26 municipalities out of 42 and the majority in the provincial council in the local elections of 1920. Also the new People's Party performed quite well both in 1919 (1 MP: Giovanni Gronchi) and in 1920 (5 municipalities). Despite the violence of fascist squads the trend did not change much in the general election of May 1921, when the Communist Party enjoyed a significant result. Only after the March on Rome the systematic use of force reversed the trend in favour of fascism (but the Republican Party still received the 23.7% of votes in Pisa city).
