Social and cultural dynamics in Latin represent a challenge for many scholars arguing that sociolinguistic categories can be fruitfully applied to ancient languages. Within this methodological framework, our approach to Latin epigraphic texts is grounded on identifying phonological and morphophonological variants, and analyzing their possible relevance in sociolinguistic terms. CLaSSES (Corpus for Latin Sociolinguistic Studies on Epigraphic textS) is an annotated corpus for quantitative and qualitative sociolinguistic analyses on Latin inscriptions, with a possible impact on the sociolinguistic picture of Latin. It allows to crossquery different data, including specific variation phenomena, typology of texts, their origin and chronological collocation. In this paper we present the macrosection CLaSSES I, focused on the inscriptions from the archaic-early period.
