This paper analyses the development-migration nexus in the EU legal order, focusing on the conceptualization of the idea and on the instruments and tools that the EU has proposed or applied to make the development-migration nexus work in real terms. After a general introduction on EU competences in the areas of migration and development, the paper examines how the EU political institutions have conceptualized the relationship between migration and development. An analysis of EU instruments for enhancing the positive impact of migration on development follows Some general observations are reported in the concluding paragraph.
