In the framework of a project aimed at developing new composite pipelines operating at cryogenic temperatures (<-160°C) the need arose to measure the thermal expansion coefficient of solid materials, from Tv of liquid nitrogen to ambient temperatures, in order to model interlayer stresses. A dedicated push-rod dilatometer was designed and tested. Details are given and the use of measured parameters in pipe modelling are described.

Abstract
In the framework of a project aimed at developing new composite pipelines operating at cryogenic temperatures (<-160°C) the need arose to measure the thermal expansion coefficient of solid materials, from Tv of liquid nitrogen to ambient temperatures, in order to model interlayer stresses. A dedicated push-rod dilatometer was designed and tested. Details are given and the use of measured parameters in pipe modelling are described.File in questo prodotto:
