Abstract

Narratives of war deeds of Hittite kings eventuate ordinarily in the devastation of conquered towns and their countryside with the deportation of part of the populace, while the countryside was rearrenged in order to meet the economic needs of wealth accumulation of the new country lords. Sometimes, however, we are confronted with extreme answers to local difficulties, with outright closure of territories, their exclusion from any economic and producing activity and their desertification; a country is offered to God, made sacred and excluded from human contacts. All this is very similar to what in the Hebrew Bible is denoted as herem.
