This article analyzes various images of Circe in the Renaissance, outlining several aspects of unusual or little-known Renaissance magic through reflection on the ancient myth. The investigation starts with Machiavelli’s Golden Ass and extends from Pomponazzi and Bodin to the Eroici Furori of Giordano Bruno, underlining the «political» and «civil» interpretation of Circe and her spells.
