The University of Pisa has a long-standing experience in the field of radiation protection. Therefore, it is not surprising that the University of Pisa Radiology team actively participated to all editions of EuroSafe Imaging poster sessions at the ECR, starting in 2015 when we presented the dose monitoring activities on a regional basis carried out together with our PACS vendor. The following year, our focus shifted to the topic of radiation protection awareness, that remains a challenge in this area, notwithstanding the educational efforts spent by teaching institutions and scientific societies. Last year, we focused our poster presentation on breast imaging, comparing the dose associated with full-field digital mammography and the dose associated with digital breast tomosynthesis. Developing the last of the aforementioned research lines, in 2017 we obtained funding for a project about radiation protection in breast imaging by Fondazione Pisa, that is well known in our city for its iconic "Blue Palace" located near the Arno river (fig. 4). Recently, the "Blue Palace" hosted a very successful exhibit entitled: "Virtual man - Physics explores the body". The project funded by Fondazione Pisa is named RADIOMA - RADiazioni IOnizzanti in MAmmografia (ionizing radiation in mammography) and its aim is to develop an innovative and reliable dose index in mammography.

Abstract
The project funded by Fondazione Pisa is named RADIOMA - RADiazioni IOnizzanti in MAmmografia (ionizing radiation in mammography) and its aim is to develop an innovative and reliable dose index in mammography.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
