Abstract

Thinking in purely economic terms, societies always and in any geographical area face the trade off between meagre resources and unlimited needs (the so-called “economic problem” or economic dilemma). From the Industrial Revolution, that has initially concerned the England on the second half of the 18th century, the economic problem has been addressed before placing side by side and then progressively replacing the “traditional” economic operators, such as families and State bureaucracies, with economic organizations capable of producing increasingly wide volumes of goods with a lower resources’ expenditure (so-called “aziende”). The inception and evolution of the “azienda-phenomenon” have moved on it the economic sciences’ focus. They’ve also caused the merge, in the world of research, of other more business-oriented sciences as, in Italy, the so-called “Economia Aziendale” or, in the Anglo-Saxon environment, the studies on Management and Organization. Far from having solved (if anything, only limited), the economic dilemma, the economic and business sciences seek to apply concepts and tools typical of the productive world to increasingly wide and diversified fields of human activity, including sport.
