The paper analyses the Leiden Manifesto for research metrics, an important text published last 23 April in the scientific journal “Nature”. The Manifesto, developed by famous scientometricians, contains ten principles (best practices) to guide research evaluation. It is intended to offer useful tools to understand the purpose of bibliometrics and the risks of “pervasive misapplication of indicators to the evaluation of scientific performance”.
