The olive oil production in Italy during the Roman age has been attested with variable intensity, depending on the geographical region. This contribution aims to create a rich - even though not exhaustive - data collection regarding oil production across the eleven Augustan Regiones and the Provinces of Sicilia and Sardinia. Considering the large amount of investigated sites and the often difficult interpretation of archaeological evidences, the collected data had been crossed by creating a detailed relational database that could represent a valid instrument for future researches in this field of study.

Abstract

The olive oil production in Italy during the Roman age has been attested with variable intensity, depending on the geographical region. This contribution aims to create a rich - even though not exhaustive - data collection regarding oil production across the eleven Augustan Regiones and the Provinces of Sicilia and Sardinia. Considering the large amount of investigated sites and the often difficult interpretation of archaeological evidences, the collected data had been crossed by creating a detailed relational database that could represent a valid instrument for future researches in this field of study.
