Fotoscienza: un rapporto simbiotico

The essay introduces a book that contains numerous contributions concerning the figure of Giorgio Roster (1843-1927), a hygienist and pioneer of scientific photography. In general it tries to show how science and photography, since the beginning of the technique in the first half of the nineteenth century, lived a sort of symbiosis, and in particular it shows how the myth of a presumed "objectivity" of the image was produced by the collaboration of optics and chemistry.

Il saggio introduce un volume che contiene numerosi contributi riguardanti la figura di Giorgio Roster (1843-1927), igienista e pioniere della fotografia scientifica. Tenta di mostrare come scienza e fotografia, fin dagli esordi della tecnica nella prima metà dell'Ottocento, abbiano vissuto una sorta di simbiosi, in particolare mostrando come si fosse ampiamente diffuso il mito di una presunta "oggettività" dell'immagine prodotta dalla collaborazione fra ottica e chimica.
