La leçon di Ionesco sulla scena portoghese

At the time when the theatre in Portugal suffers serious censorship restrictions, so much that critics speak of "gagged theatre", Ionesco plays a decisive role in the construction of resistance and opposition pieces against the regime, providing "absurd" stylistic formulas that manage to overcome the heavy scrutiny of censorship. In this brief contribution, I will try to retrace the circulation of the Romanian playwright pièces, starting from the texts and the staging of plays inspired to his works, directly and indirectly, in the Portuguese theatrical scene in the Sixties and Seventies.

In un momento in cui il teatro in Portogallo soffre gravi restrizioni censorie, tanto da far parlare i critici di ‘teatro imbavagliato’, Ionesco svolge comunque un ruolo determinante nella costruzione di spettacoli di resistenza e opposizione al regime, fornendo formule stilistiche ‘assurdiste’ che riescono anche a superare il pesante vaglio della censura. In questo breve intervento cercherò di ricostruire la circolazione delle pièces del drammaturgo romeno, partendo dai testi e dalle messe in scena di spettacoli a lui ispirati, direttamente e indirettamente, nel panorama del teatro nel Portogallo degli anni Sessanta e Settanta.
