This paper focuses on the analysis of an epigraphic source (i.e. CIL IV 1136) found in 1756 next to the main door of Giulia Felice’s Pompeian estates and concerning the locatio of a balneum, some tabernae and other spaces. The comparison between the different scholarly interpretations of the last clause of this document provided the opportunity to illustrate the peculiar ways of exploitation of the Roman balnea: their forms of management, their typical entrepreneurial organization and the common correlation between this business and several other business sectors.

Abstract
This paper focuses on the analysis of an epigraphic source (i.e. CIL IV 1136) found in 1756 next to the main door of Giulia Felice’s Pompeian estates and concerning the locatio of a balneum, some tabernae and other spaces. The comparison between the different scholarly interpretations of the last clause of this document provided the opportunity to illustrate the peculiar ways of exploitation of the Roman balnea: their forms of management, their typical entrepreneurial organization and the common correlation between this business and several other business sectors.File in questo prodotto:
