Abstract

The new archaeological data from the Northern sector of Pisa, although fragmentary, allow to enrich of additional details the historical narration of the neighbourhood during the transition from the Imperial Age to the Late Antiquity.. During the fifth century, the rich domus begin to be deconstructed and their ruins are reoccupied by huts and used for burials. A complete reorganization of urban spaces accompanies this process. Probably, in the sixth century this area is cut by a clear phisical boundary which consists of fortifications that incorporate ancient monumental ruins, such as Baths "of Nero", and enclose a town which already forewarn the Middle Ages.
