The arctic question is coming under increasing EU attention. The 2008 European Commission Communication, The European Union and the Arctic Region, shows the beginning of an awareness process of the Arctic's importance in a global context which, further away a foreign policy, it provides the basis for a future EU Arctic Policy pursunat to its Integrated Maritime Policy, towards an Arctic multilateral governance in order to achieve the right balance between the priority goal of preserving the Arctic environment and the need for sustainable use of resources.
