Gastrointestinal parasitoids represents a common problem associated with ovine breeding. Nowadays only old and potentially harmful pharmacological therapies are available in order to control this disease in animal, leading to a need of an alternative and more reliable approach to solve this problem. Our study is aimed to screen the actual local ovine population in order to select the healthy animal and narrowing the pharmacological treatment only where necessary. The study was carried out in an organic Massese’s flock and was focused on the parasite burden monitoring and the control of animal resilience. Faecal (for FEC) and blood samples (for haematocrit) were collected twice a month on 84 ewes during 14 months. Our results could be profitably used in development of local healthy breeds, avoiding pharmacological treatments in accordance with a more eco-compatible productive systems.
