The essay, presenting the preliminary results of a research on Thomas Hall, Anglican Minister in Livorno from 1784 until 1824, focuses on the dispersal of his collection of art works and ancient books. Study of the scarce surviving documentary evidence, namely a group of letters addressed to his cousin Benjamin Rush, combined with bibliographical analysis of the sale catalogue of his collections dispersed just a few months after his death, has revealed significant information on the history of this collection: from the early phases of its formation to the criteria followed by Reverend Hall in the selection of objects.

Abstract
The essay, presenting the preliminary results of a research on Thomas Hall, Anglican Minister in Livorno from 1784 until 1824, focuses on the dispersal of his collection of art works and ancient books. Study of the scarce surviving documentary evidence, namely a group of letters addressed to his cousin Benjamin Rush, combined with bibliographical analysis of the sale catalogue of his collections dispersed just a few months after his death, has revealed significant information on the history of this collection: from the early phases of its formation to the criteria followed by Reverend Hall in the selection of objects.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
