Romano Guardini is a German theologian and philosopher. According to his theory, political life originates in the dialogical relation between individual and community. A community acts in history through the State and, because every authority derives from God, the State is God’s representative in worldly things. Individual and State are entwined by mutual bonds of duty and responsibility: people have to create its own State and the State has to guarantee dignity and freedom to the individual, and both are responsible to God for their actions. By rejecting God, people reach a false freedom and the State loses its own real significance in favour of a totalitarian dictatorship, as during the Nazi era.

Abstract
Romano Guardini is a German theologian and philosopher. According to his theory, political life originates in the dialogical relation between individual and community. A community acts in history through the State and, because every authority derives from God, the State is God’s representative in worldly things. Individual and State are entwined by mutual bonds of duty and responsibility: people have to create its own State and the State has to guarantee dignity and freedom to the individual, and both are responsible to God for their actions. By rejecting God, people reach a false freedom and the State loses its own real significance in favour of a totalitarian dictatorship, as during the Nazi era.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
