This chapter aims to explore the usefulness of corpora and corpus linguistic approaches in the field of audiovisual translation. In a world where the requirements of effectiveness and quality need to be combined with market pressures and compressed times to make products available for viewers, corpus linguistics can be of service to translators. As a methodology, it can also be effectively employed in translator training. Starting with a review of the historical development and theoretical foundations of corpus studies, the chapter discusses the advantages and shortcomings of using such a methodology in translating audiovisual texts in different modalities (e.g. dubbing, subtitling, subtitling for the deaf and hard-of-hearing and audio description). Reference will be made to some fully-fledged and influential studies on the topic. The chapter is rounded off with some considerations on the possible applications of corpus linguistics and suggestions on how the approach could be implemented and expanded in the future.

Abstract
The chapter is rounded off with some considerations on the possible applications of corpus linguistics and suggestions on how the approach could be implemented and expanded in the future.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
