The chapter analyzes features and history of French loan-words into Italian. Among modern languages, French had been untill the end of XX century the most important source of Italian borrowings: for their quality (from basic vocabulary to intellectual, political and administrative words), for their quantity (several hundred words, both adapted and unadapted), and for the uninterrupted contribution (from the Middle Ages up to the third quarter of the twentieth century).
