The Functioning Profile represents a fundamental tool for school inclusion and for identifying the support to be provided to students with disabilities. Starting from the bio-psycho-social approach proposed by the ICF, it reflects the Italian legislative framework, the Ministry’s 2022 Guidelines, and the Functioning Profile model developed by the authors and officially adopted by the Sicilian Region. A proper drafting of the Functioning Profile must ensure maximum synergy between healthcare, school, and family, which must necessarily collaborate to describe and understand the student’s actual functioning. The presented model serves as an example that could also be followed by other regions and can concretely facilitate the implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) in its entirety, outlining not only the educational-didactic planning but also the identification of the needs for professional resources and the necessary support to promote school inclusion. Therefore, experimentation in clinical and educational settings is of crucial importance.
