Leggere e scrivere: un processo neuro-pedagogico

The acquisition of reading—the decoding of written symbols and the subsequent re-encoding that allows their association with a sound and a meaning—might, in a certain sense, be seen as a kind of magical and mysterious event. In reality, however, it has a scientific explanation that identifies all the steps enabling a progression of stages through which one learns to distinguish differences or similarities that are barely perceptible. These same steps also make it possible to recognize the same sound, the same symbol, and the same meaning in a written text, regardless of the font in which it is presented or its graphic and visual characteristics: print, script, cursive, bold, uppercase, lowercase, and so on.

L’acquisizione della lettura, della decodifica dei segni scritti e la successiva ricodifica che consente la loro associazione ad un suono e ad un significato, se potrebbe in un certo senso essere guardata come una sorta di evento magico e misterioso, ha in realtà una spiegazione scientifica che individua tutti i passaggi i quali rendono possibile una serie di tappe che permettono di distinguere differenze o somiglianze in realtà appena percettibili; così come permettono di riconoscere lo stesso suono, lo stesso segno e lo stesso significato in uno scritto, a prescindere dal font con cui è prodotto e dalle sue caratteristiche grafiche e visive: stampato, script, corsivo, grassetto, maiuscolo, minuscolo, e così via.
