Reference is a fundamental aspect of linking information within a text and is therefore crucial for developing reading comprehension. Learners of German as a foreign language need to develop metalinguistic skills that enable them to consciously reflect on how nouns and pronouns work together to create referential chains. This paper presents materials designed to raise awareness of how referential means work, enabling students to reconstruct referential chains. and correctly interpret the text.
