This preface is conceived as an introduction to a study by Filippo Casalini that investigates the personal and social value attributed to writing by a trio of eminent twentieth-century British authors. In the book, a dense, theoretically oriented chapter is followed by three substantial monographic chapters respectively focused on Virginia Woolf, George Orwell, and Antonia Susan Byatt. La prefazione costituisce un avvio alla lettura di uno studio di Filippo Casalini che indaga il valore personale e sociale attribuito alla scrittura da una terna di illustri autori britannici del Novecento. In questo volume, ad un denso capitolo di taglio teorico seguono tre corposi capitoli monografici rispettivamente incentrati su Virginia Woolf, George Orwell e Antonia Susan Byatt, delle cui testimonianze letterarie e critico-saggistiche Casalini mette sapientemente a fuoco dinamiche di carattere stilistico, assiologico e tematico attraverso richiami diretti e pertinenti alla loro vasta produzione.
