This essay proposes to reread the Italian novel of the 1980s not as a return to order — the received view, which registers the exhaustion of the experimental drive and a surrender to the market — but as the onset of a systemic disorder: the first phase of a twenty-year resettlement that stabilizes in the 1990s and issues, with the new millennium, into a shared narrative koine. The argument unfolds along three intertwined planes. On the morphological plane, the decade displays not a recovered order but a proliferation of forms — an ostentatious recovery of literariness as a badge of prestige, and an experimentation that nonetheless sidesteps experimentalism (plurigenericity, unstable authorial trajectories, low-fictionality writing) — governed by a constant selective sampling that retains tradition's recognizable sign while discarding its difficulty. On the sociocultural plane, this proliferation is the effect of a restructuring of the literary field — the industrialization of publishing, literary democracy, a new humanistic culture — that makes the divide between the autonomous and heteronomous poles and the hierarchy of the (high-, middle-, and low-) brows vanish, given birth to the new no-brow. On the historiographical plane, the evolutionary model of punctuated equilibrium recasts the debate over where to place the turn as a difference of perspective. In closing, the essay opens the question of literary value after the crisis of autonomy.

Abstract
In closing, the essay opens the question of literary value after the crisis of autonomy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
