Seven muscovy drakes, bred in individual cages, were used for this study. Three samples of each eiaculate (total 194) were used to determine the density of the semen by each procedure: Burker-camera, spectrophotometer, percent packed cell volume. Results showed that spectrophotometric technique is the best workable method. A lower correlation than that observed in rabbit, probably due to cloacal contaminants, resulted between direct and indirect methods. However we can conclude that optical measurement should be used for repeated measures and when a large number of samples are involved.
